No more overdue fines!

As of July 15, the Carnegie Public Library of Steuben County will no longer be charging fines.  This means that there will no longer be any overdue fines on most items like books, music, books on CD, movies, magazines, and more. This policy does exclude mobile hotspots which will still incur overdue fines if not returned by the due date.  Fines are sometimes a barrier to library use and we want to eliminate as many barriers as possible.

Here are the details:

  • Fines will be waived on items checked out from the Carnegie Public Library of Steuben County only, even if they belong to another library.

  • Fees for lost or damaged items will still be charged.

  • Items not returned within 28 days of the due date will be marked as lost, and a replacement fee will be charged.  But when the item is returned, the replacement fee will be waived and you will owe nothing.

  • Those with lost or damaged fees of more than $10 will be blocked from checking out more items until the items are returned, or the charges are paid.

  • So contact us by phone, email, visit to the library, or Facebook message and we will waive any fines your account.
