The Carnegie Public Library of Steuben County is seeking Youth Services librarian.  This is a full-time position that will require some evenings and weekends.  Responsibilities will include providing reference assistance, readers’ advisory, and the development and presentation of children’s programming.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, organize, present and supervise the presentation of educational and entertaining youth programs and services.

  • Create and maintain a welcoming atmosphere in the Youth department.

  • Attend professional meetings and workshops as required

  • Supervise patrons in the Youth department

  • Communicate with the Director and staff about upcoming programs and events

  • Maintain participant statistics for all programs and events

  • Work collaboratively with library staff to deliver excellent services our patrons

  • Perform other duties as assigned 


SKILLS:

  • Ability to work as a member of a team and independently

  • Ability to maintain confidential information

  • Possess shelf reading and organizational skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patrons and other staff members

  • Must be proficient with computers

  • Willingness to help out wherever needed

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred. The Children/Teen Librarian must hold or be able to obtain an Indiana Librarian Certificate 6 (LC6).  An LC6 requires a High School Diploma or GED/HSE plus 3 years of library experience or 9 credit hours of college level Library Science.  Reimbursement for library credits is available.
