It Deserves All of the Hype!

"Before We Were Yours" by Lisa Wingate came out in 2017. It has been a historical fiction bestseller ever since and it deserves it. Here is what one reviewer said: "Based on one of America’s most notorious real-life scandals—in which Georgia Tann, director of a Memphis-based adoption organization, kidnapped and sold poor children to wealthy families all over the country—Lisa Wingate’s riveting, wrenching, and ultimately uplifting tale reminds us how, even though the paths we take can lead to many places, the heart never forgets where we belong." Well said.

Our book clubs recently had emotional discussions about this novel. While the fictional story is easy to read and really flows, the issues are complex and heart wrenching. It reminds one of "The Orphan Train" by Christina Baker Kline in that the subject is something most of us never knew anything about. We definitely learned about a dark time in the not too distant past. Don't miss this compelling and poignant family story.
